So for starters there are several people I know joining bootcamp next phase. That’s great for them but my conversations with them is making me uncomfortable. I think they figure since I did it that anyone can do it. They expect to lose 70 pounds and have their cake too…..Literally!
I don’t think they understand that I have given up a lot of foods, that I workout more then just bootcamp that I have changed my entire life.
They are going to do the workouts BUT…..
- They can not do certain exercise – okay steve can handle that
- They don’t want to work like they see the people on the biggest loser. okay we don’t workout for 8 hours with a trainer yelling in our face but our workouts are no joke. And seriously your results depend on your actions – how hard you push yourself.
- They are not giving up any foods okay they COULD do moderation if their willpower is strong
- they are not going to count calories
- They are still going to drink beer /wine regularly
- They don’t like veggies, fruits, fish, cottage cheese
When the conversation gets to this point, I don’t know what to say. I start to feel attacked.
- Them: “I can not workout ask much as you, you are ridiculous”
- My best response: '”I am just really focused right now”
- Them: I don’t eat a lot of protein I really love carbs and whole wheat pasta doesn’t count
- My best response: Nutrition is a given take – I have my vice (choc) but I do my best to make the right choice 90% of the time
Seriously if you have any insight please tell me. I have worked hard for these 70 pounds. I shouldn’t have to justify it.

I am sorry to say that I have no insight...it is so hard when people think they can do nothing and lose weight...I have given up trying. I just try and change the subject or I will just tell them exactly what I have done!
I totally agree - with me my issue is all my friends saying "I don't have as much time as you" ummmm, we all have 24 hours in our day. I don't "have" time, I make time, or "it's OK for you, you don't have kids", I think I remember that I quite enjoyed being active as a kid - you can go for walks together, play games in the park. It's about making the choice. You know you have worked hard for your weight loss and your choices mean your weight will stay off. Don't let anybody make you feel you haven't deserved it. They will soon learn weight loss isn't easy and exercise is good but isn't going to work all on it's own. Keep up your hard work. You've done amazing so far! x
My MIL recently sent me an e-mail by accident in which she told the MIL of a girl who'd had the surgery to lose 100lbs, that if I hadn't lost those 60 I would qualify. Um... huh? I LOST 60LBS WITHOUT SURGERY! I know some people need it, but for only 100lbs and no health issues? That seems silly to me. And to suggest I shouldn't have worked off that weight on my own... I hear you on this one... *sigh*
I have no insight either; you should be able to be nothing but proud of yourself for your accomplishment. Maybe weight loss and dieting are going the way of religion and politics - best to avoid talking about with some people:)
No, you absolutely should NOT have to justify it. Remember though, you are a walking billboard for weight loss whether you want to be or not. So am I, and anyone else who's had the success we've had. People come up to us like we carry a magic pill around and expect us to give it to them under the table or something - like, we're hiding a secret because we're part of an 'elite' team. In reality, these people know exactly what it is they should be doing; they are just. not. ready. I get frustrated beyond belief when I get calls from family and friends asking for an hour of my time, then when I give it to them, along with an entire meal/exercise plan, they say, 'Well, I just can't do that.' I feel like pulling out my hair! lol
Then I try to remember what I was like when I was on the edge of my unhappiness. Too scared to change and too scared not to. It's a difficult thing, making the commitment and then sticking to it.
You give as much or as little information as you want to, Kristen. If you get tired of dealing with people, do what I do and just say, 'You know, everyone is different and what works for me probably won't work for you; I'd consult your doctor.'
Oh, and by the way....you look absolutely and truly amazing.
